About John Sincerbeaux

ohn’s woodworking is an amalgam of his many passions. He was seemingly born with an endless desire to create things out of wood. As a boy, he used to build things out of wooden crates using just a pull-out saw blade in his pocket knife. By the time he was in High School, he had taken over his mom’s garage and set up his own wood shop.

Growing up in Southern California afforded John to fully connect with the ocean and the mountains where he spent most of his young life surfing, skiing, and hiking. Through his artwork, you can sense his connection to nature.

John also has a strong love for flying. He learned to fly while in High School, acquiring his Private Pilot’s license at age 17. He payed for college and his advanced flying certificates by woodworking. Wanting to be the best pilot he could, after college, he joined the U.S. Air Force and flew T-38’s as an instructor pilot.

After his military flying, he was hired by American Airlines where he currently fly’s B767’s to the Hawaiian Islands every week. By flying to Hawaii, John stays connected to the ocean and what he considers the most beautiful place on earth. Through his countless hours windsurfing, kiteboarding, and surfing all over the Hawaiian islands, John has seen many different fish, turtles, sharks, coral reefs, and some of the most incredible sunsets and sunrises. He has inlaid more sea turtles “Hono” into his woodwork than any other feature. John’s favorite wood to work with is Acacia “Koa” grown only in Hawaii.

The use of Marquetry* enables John to incorporate the many artistic influences through his woodworking. John views wood as his canvas and the many colored woods he inlays as his paints. When you see and feel John’s award winning woodwork, you see the passion of the person that created it.

*Marquetry is the art of inlaying different woods, and other natural materials to create a picture.
